Has Anyone Replaced Front Seat Lower Cover?
The MBtex on my drivers seat is ripped. Dealer tried having it fixed and it's re-ripped. I need to replace the lower seat cover.
I've found used seats at junkyards for about $400.
I can buy an OEM seat cover with the heater built into it for $270.
Has anyone ever tried replacing the lower seat cover. Any idea on how hard this is?

the seat bottom can be removed. there are 2 torx screws near the front of the seat on the bottom. once these are removed, the seat can be lifted, and detached from the rear portion where it meets the backrest. the heating element needs to be unplugged - it's a wire that runs from the bottom of the seat assembly to a power socket on the car. the seat cover is basically snapped around the frame on the bottom.
once the fasteners are detached, the 'tufted' parts of the seat are held in by little hooks. it's not hard at all if you've seen it done, but the first time can be a little intimidating.
i would suggest getting a little hook tool, to grab the edges under the cover to pull away. then peel the seat around and off the edges. then proceed to unhook the tufted parts. do everything in reverse with the new cover.
i've done this a few times actually in the process of trying different padding additions to make the seat more comfortable, and i seem to be constantly trying new padding configurations.
