Car died randomly today

Well, after nearly 3 yrs of almost trouble-free service, my C250 randomly died at a stoplight today. I coasted to a stop, the car shuddered, the warning lights all went on, and then the car simply stopped. Shifted into park and re-starting the engine seems to have solved the issue for now.

Made an appt for Wed w/ the local dealership service station (would've brought it in today, but they're all out of loaners).

Had similar issues w/ my family's 190E and 300E. One required a re-built transmission, the other required a new alternator. Is there something else that might be wrong w/ the car?

Well, to answer my own question, the dealer service station has kept the car since last Wed to try to diagnose the prob. Was informed on Fri that they had ordered a part for the transmission (not sure what part).

Found this article regarding cold start stalling and shuddering, although it's specifically about the older transmission....

Curious as to how many miles you have on it... Although it sounds from the dealer call and the fact that they did not need to get your authorization (for a specific amount for the replacement part + labor) that it would be covered under warranty...

At first glance,m I would have several guesses: A vacuum leak, a broken O2 sensor, or a clogged/stuck EGR valve although all of those would likely trigger an OBD-II code and a CEL light while the ECM tried to compensate for the lean condition. And if I am close on the low mileage, then most of my guesses aren't valid per se...

I would be great if yo can also update us with the final result and what part was it that the dealer replaced.

Good uck!

Thanks for the response! I have ~38000 mi on my MY 2012 (purchased ~02/2012). I assume that's on the lower side of average. I drive the car everyday, but my commute's only ~25 mi roundtrip.

It wasn't just the CEL light that went on. It was ALL the lights. The car seemed to be running fine, I coasted to a stop, the car shuddered, stalled, and then all the warning lights came on.

I remember when I once posted awhile back about the revs changing when I switched from "E" to "S" that a forum member commented that something might be wrong w/ my transmission. Since my car seemed to be running fine, I didn't bring it up w/ the service manager. But maybe that poster was right....

I've noticed the that C250 loaner I have (MY 2013 or later) runs SIGNIFICANTLY smoother, even when the engine's cold. Very curious....

Will def keep y'all updated.

According to the receipt, it looks like they replaced a torque converter solenoid. Have no idea what that means....
