40K Service

Hey MB lovers, it's been a while since I visited this forum, this time I really need your help.

My 2011 C300 is almost at 40K miles, the B5 service is due soon and I want to do some homework to prepare for the fat check. For those who did this service, you know it cost at least $1400 at MB dealers. But, do I really need to get this service performed at a dealership? Why not a third party Mercedes-Benz certified shop to save a few bucks? Since my warranty is expiring anyways, I really don't feel like being ripped off by the dealer...I'm open to your suggestions friends

Thanks in advance and I look forward to receiving a few recommendations!!

Absolutely check reputable independents. All you need is receipts to prove the work was done. Just make sure you are saving enough to justify giving up the goodwill of the MB Service Dept.

It's a major service. On top of the regular B service (Oil, filter change and lubrication of chassis..)it also needs a transmission fluid flush every 40k miles, brake system flush.

Did you do the service? If so, was it at a 3rd party shop?

I have always brought our 2 MBs to a reputable independent shop that is owned by a master mechanic. No issues with warranty when I bring it to the dealer.

Late last year I paid $700 cash for a B service, brake flush, and transmission/torque converter flush for my 2012 GLK350.

My 2009 C300 is nearing 80K and will be getting the same service plus replacing the spark plugs.

Save some more by replacing the cabin filter, air filter and wiper blades yourself, they are easy DIYs.

My dealership wanted $1500. I called around using this website

http://www.benzshops.com/

If you look at your manual, a lot of the points are "check this...check that". I did the super simple things like: change my air filer, cabin filter, serpentine belt, etc.

Here is an electronic version for the service manual:
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servic...enance_manuals

Mainly oil change, transmission flush, brake fluid replacement.

Good luck!

I'm not surprised they asked that much, it's insane!

Thanks for your suggestions.
