My father has that noise in his S500, and I believe the dealer installed the catalytic converters incorrectly or something because the noise started ever since then. Try to find a way to isolate it to the exhaust. Whenever I drive his car, the noise annoys the hell out of me.

Sounds to me like a groaning power steering pump or transmission front pump. If you remove the drive belt and drive it for a min and the sound is still there, most likely the trans front pump. If it goes away its most likely the PS pump.
