Valentine V1 Update
I am enjoying the winter driving even more so with the Valentine V1. I purchased a cheap $29 android phone and got the app, YaV1 from the German producer and use it only as a dedicated device, leaving it in the car.
YaV1 is far superior to the other apps out there, but it only works with Android. Its nice to leave the phone in the car, set up with a holder in the air vent, so it is visible while driving.
Learning the difference between the highway road signs and the mall's automatic doors, and actual law enforcement radar has made the Valentine quite quiet. It only goes audible on a real alert.
We have had too much snow. This has led to over-confident drivers, as well as the usual horde of pick up trucks that wait for snow to go flying through the streets. People have lost caution. This week, a 75 car accident took place, something that has not been seen here in a long time.
In one storm, there was an almost white out condition. The V-1 went off (I was going 25mph and many people had pulled over due to the inability to see) and we thought it was strange because what LE would be out in a storm like this with radar: no one is going to speed.
The signal was week but steady. I came upon a very large downhill and after another 2-3 minutes, the signal increased.
A few minutes later, there he was upon us.
This thing is amazing. To pick up radar that far away and given the topography, it is something special.
