2009 C350 Thermostat (Engine Light P0128)
I live in upstate New York, temperature in winter is around 10F degree.
One day the engine light was on, and I had it checked by the mechanic. He said it was about the thermostat, then he turn the light off on computer and said if it was on again, I would need to replace the thermostat.

Yesterday the light was on again. The mechanic said I need to replace the whole housing. However, he can only get the part from dealer which will cost 650. I have checked online that the whole housing should be around 200, and many people replace by themselves.

May I have some suggestions if I need to replace the whole housing and whom I should ask to replace it?

Thanks!!

The thermostat and housing are one unit. Its rather simple to replace, your mechanic could easily do it. Rock Auto has them for $111.
