New to the MB world, opinions on this C300Sport??

Current car is becoming a bit too small for me personally and have always loved MB, looking a 2, this one is if I decide to not have another car for the winter which I'm leaning towards the other I will post later, that's a 2007 CLK550 Sport but only if I decide to bother with a winter beater again, PITA.....

This is the link to the 300, any input would be great and have not gone to drive yet or negotiate pricing......

Looks like a good deal. I would make sure that the services have all been done (transmission at 80k). I would go to kbb.com and check the car value in it and compare it to the dealer.

hawk02 03-26-2015 08:50 AM

Thanks, looks like they are about $1,000 below KBB so I guess that's good and they said they will show me the service records they have for the car, all depends what they offer me for my car......

hawk02 03-26-2015 01:06 PM

Went to look at it, nice car, extensive service history but due for 2nd trans service, gonna try to have them do it as part of the deal if I decide on it if not how much is the trans service for these???. Beautiful inside, outside needs 2 center caps and RF lower bumper needs slight repair, didn't have time to drive it yet, probably Saturday but they did like my car so we'll see how that part goes, LOL. Anything else I should be looking at????? Thanks, nice to see a busy forum with lots of information.......

Make sure the rear shocks are not blown. Also, keep in mind that it looks like a very basic model. No MMI, can't tell if it has P1 package or not either. If you're just looking for a basic MB ride and the deal is good, great. Just keep in mind that there won't be HIDs, Harmon Kardon, Pano roof, Nav, etc.
Other than that make sure it rides as it should and there are no unusual noises. Also, if the recall for the tail lights connectors was done and if not, make sure they're not burned.
Can't tell from the pics, but also inspect the fog lights for cracking in the glass. If they're good and you get the car, get some Laminx on those puppies stat, to prevent them from getting broken.

hawk02 03-26-2015 04:21 PM

It's listed as having the P1 package, no navigation(don't care, lol), the fog lenses looked good and I will check the rear shock before any deals, I did get a 5 page service history, LOL, they said the woman who owned was crazy for service, that's good I guess. It listed all the warranty work and the work that was paid for.....

aznmode 03-26-2015 04:40 PM

It has heated seats and driver memory seats so that's a plus. From what I remember that's part of the P1 package. No HID which shouldn't be hard to upgrade. Same with the tail lights if you want it to look like the current models. That's if you're ok with aftermarket stuff and spending the $. No navi so it doesn't look as cool. But TBH the Navi sucks anyways. Not very easy to use. But it makes the car interior look better IMO. Its good for the price. The c300 is slightly slower than a c350 though. If I knew any better, I would've gone for a c350. But that's all preference. And yes, drive before you buy. Good luck.

Thanks for all the information, I'll keep this thread posted. You said something about the tail lights, which style???????

Nice.....

But its not a Golf R32.........

Smaller but what a car. Trying to buy one for my wife

hawk02 03-29-2015 12:31 PM

LOL, yeah the R is neat but low and a bit small but nice, ll depends what they offer me on the trade, I know what they can sell it for as I have been following what other dealers are getting for them with more mileage and mine has an awesome service history on car fax, so does this MB. Actually they just lowered the price to $14,980.00, getting to the end of the month...LOL

hawk02 03-29-2015 05:50 PM

Well went to drive it and also drove a 2015 CLA250, not getting either one, neither could hold a candle to my .:R32, ride, performance, feel, nothing. So thanks for all the info but the R looks like it's here to stay but glad I looked into the one's I could afford, just expected more.

Hope you enjoy the car. Post pictures of whatever you may do to it.

Wish I could, I guess it's just not meant to be, insurance was over $800 more per year, can't do it.......Ho well, now I know I can't look at these anymore.....

That's crazy beans! I had a 2011 VW GTI, and I just swapped to a 2014 C300 Sport a little over a week ago, and my insurance is only $156/year more than my GTI. I went from $65/month to $78/month. That's full coverage with 100/300 limits and a $500 deductible.

I wonder why the difference is so big with your R32?

I'm 38 and I use State Farm. I should also point out that zip code (I'm in a good zip in Minnesota), driving record (it's clean and accident free), multi policy discounts (home, 2 cars, life), and other factors all affect rates. So I wouldn't compare my actual rate to yours, but it's the difference between the two cars for the OP's insurance that's shocking to me.

hawk02 04-01-2015 11:16 AM

My insurance is with selective, I'm 47 with 4 cars insured and house, clean record, only thing is an accident my son was in last year but only the car that he is driving had the rate increase. My R32 is a 2008 with 69000 miles, the C300 is a 2014 with 9000, i expected an increase due to mine being 7 years old just not that much.

TheRulesLawyer 04-01-2015 11:33 AM

That's strange. If anything I'd expect a r32 to be more expensive to insure. Its definitely a hot rodder, young male car while the C class doesn't really attract that sort of attention. Wonder if your particular company doesn't have a R32 category and just considers it a golf?

hawk02 04-01-2015 12:08 PM

Nope, says right on my policy, 2008 VW R32 AWD, just ran all 4 through Progressive with the same coverage and was still over $6,000 per year for the 4 cars, 2 with full coverage and 2 with state minimum............so it wasn't just my company, who knows maybe it's RI.........

cfmistry 04-01-2015 02:02 PM

Have you all looked into Geico? From my experience they are by far the cheapest, though I've heard they're not the best at processing claims.

hawk02 04-01-2015 02:07 PM

LOL, just got off the phone with them at the request of the dealer and they were another $800 more than my already $800 increase from my current company, looks like living in RI with one of these cars is nuts..............
