I think I have the old transmission
I looked up VINs in EPC for W204s from 2008-2014. The datacard shows that from 2008-2012 the C300s came with 722964 or 722.964 transmissions. The 2013-2014 show a different number which is 722960 or 722.960. Am I correct in that these number specify 7G and 7G+?

You are correct. The easiest way to distinguish 7G and 7G+ as well is if the car has ECO Start Stop functionality.

That means I am definitely going to need at least Powertrain warranty. I only have 4 months left of factory warranty.

I have no doubt that I bought the car I wanted, don't you see how gorgeous it looks? I was totally planning to DEPO headlight, trunk lid spoiler and 18' AMG around $1800+ if I got one without, but it came with all that OEM. My problem is with all the failures I have been reading about the 7G. As a matter of fact, my fiance's CPO 2010 C300 4Matic Lux bought with 33k now 45k is making the whining noise and is gotten louder and happens while in neutral, so go figure... I have service A app in an hour so I'll ask about it.

Dealer "confirmed" the noise, but they will need it back next week to determine the root cause of it. If they replace the transmission with a new one, will that one be a revised version that will not cause this problem again?

the remanufactured transmission that Mercedes uses has superseded parts.(AKA-MUCH BETTER PARTS) with the upgraded internal parts of the transmission the transmission should last the life of the car.
also by having the remanufactured transmission it makes it now possible to rebuild your transfer case.
if it just the torque converter that failed they might only replace that only.

my remanufactured transmission so far has been flawless.
knock on wood.

Do you think that the 2012 C300 4Matic 7G-Tronic has exactly the same parts and failure rate that the 2008-2011 C300 4Matic 7G-Tronic has or it is too early to tell?

the main failure rate for all year vehicles using 4matic systems.
even up to 2014 have had problems with their transfer case.
torque converter is kind of low incident.

the 4matic transmission is shared with the
2011-13 E350 4MATIC
2012-13 CLS550 4MATIC
2011-13 E550 4MATIC
2010-13 GLK350 4MATIC
2011 S550 4MATIC
AND OF COURSE ARE C CLASS

I was one of the unlucky ones.
