What model year ? Why do you need to add if you don't know where the reservoir is ? There is a small black tank with cap at the front right of engine as you are looking at it. Check fluid level first ? If it has never been drained and it is >5 years old - you might want to consider going to somewhere like aamco and have them flush it - or use turkey baster to remove as much as you can and refill with dealer fluid or Pentosin chf-11 in green can that you can get at many auto parts stores. Just don't overfill (cap has two marks for hot and warm levels) and don't use Atf that works in bmw and other cars ...

You raise a great point. I hear a humming noise any time I do a really tight turn and I know normally that means power steering is low, right?

Could be - check for signs of leaks at hoses that run from the reservoir . If car is 5+ y/o can't hurt to flush fluid ( or cheap method is turkey baster) - just don't overfill. That is $20 quick fix if you are lucky ...

It expands when hot. A couple of mm overfill should not be of concern.
