I think my power steering is dying...
About 2 weeks ago, I accelerated hard from a stop across a wide intersection making a left hand turn, and my power steering pump made a really loud whine for a couple of seconds and I felt a vibration in my steering wheel. I had just gotten my car back from having the thermostat replaced, so half wondered if I was hearing the belt slip from coolant that got spilled on it or something and told myself I would keep an eye on it.
Last night I hit a decent sized bump making a left hand turn into a parking lot, and the vibration happened - I had the music up so did not hear any whining. Today, accelerating and making a lane change to the left, it did it again for a second.
Fluid levels look good, no visible leaks, no more whining than it has ever had. 35,750 miles... does this sound like anything anyone else here has experienced?

I wonder whether the relief valve is lifting prematurely but it usually makes a throttling fluid noise. ?

It's definitely not a hiss. This is more of a rough grinding screech noise.
I'm going to get them to look at it this week but expect a "Could not replicate problem" with it. Between various bits blowing up and the dealer causing damage to the finish on it that they have to repair, it's been in the shop 12 times in the past 4 months. I'm sick of taking it in.
I'm getting ready to take it on a 1,000 mile round trip and don't want to be somewhere in the mountains and have it melt down on me.

Hi
I suspect your car may have got antifreeze on the multi v belt, what I would do is inspect the belt if it looks good start the engine and spray a small amount of water at the belt when it is running to wash off any sticky dried anti freeze.
Then take it for a drive it will make a noise until it dries out.
Also worth checking the front tyres for low pressure and pump them up if necessary.

Isn't this forum great. A guy from Maryland in the US asks for advice and gets an answer from across the world in Aust and NZ. Now that's Merc Camaraderie.
