engine oil in air path after taking off air filter. c350
2012 C350 I found engine oil in the air path when removing the air filter. I don't think this is normal is it? How concerned should I be and what could cause this?

Nah just a bit busy the past few days...
So your last post seems to imply that a small amount of oil can be expected in that location. Am I understanding you correctly?
I cleaned out that area thoroughly and plan to reinspect it after a week or so, then take it in under warranty if needed.

I have had diesels & always find a little oil in the intake after the air-cleaner . The oil vapour condenses there from the crankcase ventilation hose before the vapour is burnt in the engine. In the old old days before pollution controls this oil vapour went to atmosphere.
It is worth investigating but most likely a normal occurrence.
Don't work too hard.

I had this same question the other day when I decided to see how dirty my filter is. Apparently it's normal, which is just strange to me why Benz would design a system that causes this. I think that when the oil catch container (attached to the bottom of the intake elbow) gets somewhat full, the oil will then start to creep out thus causing that?
