C Class Fires

I realize that this may be a known issue but I suspect that there are folks on this forum who a) bought their cars new but did not keep MBUSA or MBC advised of their contact info, b) bought used and never bothered to register as an owner with MBUSA or MBC, c) bought used and get their service done at an indy or DIY it or any combo of the above hence they would have no notice of recalls on W204 C class cars including the 4Matics and C63.
NHTSA and MBC recalled cars from 2008-2011 for what is reportedly a ground pin fault in the rear wiring harness which leads to overheating, charring of the wiring and connectors and can lead to fires in the cars.
A fellow MBCA member lost his 2009 C300 from a fire that was observed to start in the rear of his car in his carport while he was away. By the time the emergency services reached him he lost the C300, his SLK, his BMW R1200RT motor bike and the house was so badly damaged it is considered a write off. The C300 was up for sale and he had not bothered to put storage insurance on it so he will be out the value of that car unless his insurer and MBC get all gooey and help out which is highly unlikely.
I would urge all those with W204 cars who are not sure if the work to be done in the recall has been completed to got to a dealer and find out. If not it should be done free of charge under the recalls.
