DIY dash cam hardwire.

As my car only has one 12v input I decided to hardwire my dash cam. Now I needed a switched live so the cigarette lighter was the obvious choice.

I'm no electrician but I can use a multimeter so it was actually a very simple job.

So first things first. I followed MA Carbons PDF to remove the ashtray.

Once removed disconnect the electrical plug from the ashtray. The red wire on the ashtray is the live. Where it goes into the main loom it's the pink wire.

Negative on the ashtray is the brown, same colour on the main loom.

Now to get easy access to run wires to the loom remove the cover below the vents in the rear of the car. You will see two 10mm nuts. Remove those and you can lift the centre consol up high enough to feed in your wires and splice them to the loom.

I then ran my wires along under the side of the centre consol, underneath the glove box and round to the top of the windscreen.

A few pics. Hope this helps somebody wanting to do the same job.

Loom cables. Pink is live and brown is negative.

Ashtray cables. Red is live and brown is negative.

Loom cut and female splices added.

Dash cam wires spliced in with loom wires.

These are the two nuts you need to undo to allow you to lift the centre consol and feed the in your wires.
