Good day all,

I have a 2014 c 300 4 matic with 11k and have a question over wear and tear. I have a short local drive that allows me to safely run this car for a few miles as fast as I want. Light traffic, interstate, (please no comments over the morality of the action) and so my question is........ is there any science to support that by running this car up to 105 mph for a few miles will damage or shorten the lifespan of the motor? Or is it just normal because of the car's design. any feedback would be appreciated, cause I just don't know:zoom:

Hypothetically speaking I drove my 2009 c300 at ~120 for a few miles on a long open stretch on the highway. This was about 6 months ago and haven't noticed any changes with the engine at all.

The car is designed to be driven on Autobahn, which 105 mph is pretty normal I believe :)

In summer time when we drive thru Germany there are several no speed limit areas on the autobahn.. Car there go 120-140-150mph.. Cars today are built to last..

I wouldn't even blink twice at 105mph for a few minutes. For sustained high speed driving your tires tend to be the biggest issue, but even then only the cheapest of the cheap would have trouble at those speed. Anything you'd put on a MB probably is rated at least H-130mph.

But in my opnion, I think it will be better to avoid staying in high rpm for too long. Once you reach 105mph, shift to higher gears (6th or 7th) and "cruise" at 105 mph. :y

Just make sure the engine is at operating temperature before running at higher revs to prevent premature wear.

What you should worry about isn't the speed, but the RPM, if you're talking about wear and tear. No engine is built to be redlining for long periods of time.

One of the reason why you bought a Merc is to experience German engineering at it's finest. Embrace it!

German engines needs to be opened up once in a while or most of the time. When you have the opportunity to stretch it's legs do it. I find the car to respond better when you drive it more agressive than driving it like a grandma.
