I'm sure it is true (to a certain extent), now is it widespread I don't know. Everyone I know that has the 7 speed (ours is the plus) have never had any problems. I would expect some issues with how many of these transmissions are on the road but like most things if people have no issues they remain silent....

That site is entirely documenting MBZ India related issues, and is simply claiming that its worldwide practices are the same. This is probably just a smear campaign from some pissed off old dealership in India.
Besides all this is pre 2008 information; Back then Audi had terrrriiible problems too. All car companies have things going wrong. GM, Hyundai, BMW. If I wanted to i could make this site for every car company.

To be honest, I'm usually dubious about any site of which title is "The truth about ____"
Also, it isn't well written. That's not to say all of it isn't true, but likely greatly exaggerated
