I am having difficulty in believing that I will not be able to get TMC working in my 2012 W204 with Comand Online in South Africa.


I had a 2008 C350 which had the old pop up screen for the Comand Navi system. I was told then by the dealers that TMC didn't work in South Africa, and took it as that being that.


I now have a 2012 C350 with Comand Online, and I'm told that it now works, but, not in my car! I'm told that it is a hardware issue that was only activated in the 2013 models (identical to mine - facelift with "C" lights). The question that I have is... Am I correct in thinking that this something that could be activated by installing the 2013 version mapset, or perhaps a setting in the engineering menu?... or is this really a hardware issue that can't be resolved unless I buy a new car?


My mapset is the 2012 version. I have the "TMC" block at the bottom of the screen when in Navi mode, but when I select it it says "No TMC message".


I have been in a 2013 model with 2013 maps, and actually seen the TMC working (traffic congestion), so I know that the service is active in South Africa.


I really would appreciate a definitive answer on this, so if someone can provide insight I'd be grateful.
