Ignition - Correct Way

Can anyone tell me why are there three clockwise turns calibrated before starting the engine? Once I put the key and when I start the engine in "one" go without any pauses, I have an ESP problem showing up. But when I first make one clockwise turn and stop where it is calibrated, and then turn to the next one and, finally, the next one for the engine to start there is no problem with my ESP. I pause 10secs between each turn and thank God it starts without a problem. Is there a correct way to handle the ignition switch?

I have driven diesels for many years so even though it is not now necessary to wait a little time for glow plugs , I do wait between steps. It allows each stage to fire up & complete its staged start up eg the fuel pump to charge the header & a little time (1-2 seconds ) for the glow plugs to warm.

I just wait for the circuit breakers & relays to finish before moving to the next step. But I am a silly old retired power station operator fart & it probably has zero relevance into todays technology.

Try lessening the time between stages & see whether it works ?.

Battery

I had changed my battery about a year work and a half ago. When I start the car, the engine ceases to work before I push the accelerator. Is that an indication of early signs of battery problem?
