Spare Tyre Size R16/R17

Spare Tyre Size R16/R17
Hi,
Does the spare tyre come in a different size than the normal tyres. My car C200 2014 model has R17 5 spoke alloy wheels where as the spare tyre is R16. I'm not sure if this is how MB generally gives spare tyre?Any help would be appreciated.
