stealership visit
got 70K service. They wanted to change engine air filter $105, spark plugs $425. I declined. Just changed both, took me an hour, cost me $80 in parts and I cleaned the MAF sensor whilst I was at it. Sparks , filter and MAF cleaning are so easy, easiest for any german car i've owned.

It's always been this way but I don't think you can really blame the dealer or Indy shop. It takes tools, knowledge, time and effort to perform a "simple" filter change, etc. , and most people prefer to pay the premium. While it's not cheap to run a shop, I do think they go overboard on the pricing sometimes.
Of course for some of us, it is very satisfying to DIY most anything.

Keep in mind, the price of OEM spark plugs from the dealership is quite steep.
I did air filters/spark plugs on mine with parts from the dealership and I think the cost of parts alone, if I remember correctly, was in the $200 range.
