2012 C300 4Matic Luxury
Wheel questions - C300 Luxury
Hi all,
New to posting but have been a reader for a while. I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me where the local MB dealership and tire shops have not been able to. I've also checked many posts that don't seem to directly answer my situation, so any help is appreciated!
I drive a 2012 C300 4matic Luxury edition. The wheel on the car when I purchased it were not original and were upgraded from the 17" wheels it came with. The tires rub when there's weight in the back, when turning sharply and when going over bumps. So, I'm looking to replace the wheels and tires and the tires are dead at this point anyway.
The new wheels recommended to me by a wheel store are 18x8 with a 35 mm offset. After perusing the Internet and these forums, I have the following questions:
- can the luxury edition even handle 18" wheels? I know the Sport edition offers 18" as an option but the luxury does not, which makes me wonder if there are differences between the two aside from cosmetics.
- does a 35mm offset even work with this car? Seems like 40-50 is the acceptable range from what I've seen.
- is there a tire size that is recommended with this set up to reduce rubbing?
I'm not an expert on any of this so really looking for help, thank you!!

Yes, you can comfortably use 18s on your lux, even 19s and 20s if you want. Which leads to your second question on offsets. Those offsets are too low. You want something in the high 40s, low 50s, even with that lower width.

-I'm not sure about the offset. I do know for the Luxury edition though all 4 wheels and tires have to be identical. Where as the Sport models have different sized wheels in the rear. This could only be a specification for the 4matics though. Probably due to how fragile the stupid transmission is...
- I'm not sure about the rubbing, but I will always recommend Michelin's over any other tire brand. Just because of my personal experience with the them.
