Help! Oil leak in back of engine, up top.

There's a drip coming from the back of the engine and it is supposed to be a $350 part. I was told by a reliable source that it is just a bad oring on a part (can't think of the name of the part) that is not available so they make you buy the whole part. He also said that someone found a oring or gasket from another product that matches the oring close enuf to work. Anyways, sorry for the weak info, but it is my wifes car and I have to get translations from her also. ANy info on this?

it's the vacuum pump.

Since it's not my car I do not feel too ashamed about forgetting that it was the vacuum pump leaking. Part cost $250 but was told by a genie that you can replace the o-ring for a few bucks if you know where to gat an o-ring that fits.

I have a 08 cls550 and had the same problem but the oil was dripping on the exhaust and made a burning smell. The part that guy told you about is called the Oil Seperator and is located on the top of the right cylinder head. Take both engine covers off and feel around the bottom of this thing. It is round about 3-4 inches in diameter and has a hose that attaches to it. The part was $85.00. Oh yes it has 4 star screws and the size of the screws are #27. 28 or 30. You must have much patience to do this job. Hopefully this will solve your problem, I have the V-8 engine so it may be the same part. Let me know what happens.

Turned out to be the vacuum pump. They replaced it. What a waste of money if in fact it is just a farking gasket. I have the part and will dissect it if I can find the time and tools.
