Lease Ending - What is the process like?
Hey all,
So the lease on my C300 is coming up in a few months and being that this is really my first lease out of school, I'm a little unfamiliar with the process. I've done some research and read the material on the MBFS website and the lease end process looks pretty benign. From what I gathered, you turn in your vehicle for an inspection and from there are assessed whether or not your vehicle needs some repairs or not. My question is: how thorough is the process? Is it a standardized checklist or does ever dealer have their own way? What is fair game for dealers to call out as 'needing repair' and what will they overlook at lease turn-in? What are you experiences? Also, I'm currently in the Philly/SNJ market so anyone who's ever dealt with Mercedes Benz dealers in this area---your input would be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I leased a Nissan a while back and I was sure they'd ding me for a few things but much to my surprise they sent me a check.
The process reminded me of returning a rental.

I can't speak about MB Financial leases, as I've never leased one. I can say, though, that when I returned a leased Lexus LS400 some years ago, they just gave the car a brief inspection and road check. They of course audit mileage, in case you're over your lease allowance. They also told me that any body damage larger than a US quarter would be assessed at estimated repair cost. They then overlooked two small dents in the rear deck, which I thought were going to cost me.
The general lease transaction does allow for "normal wear and tear" which covers a broad range of things. I would expect to be charged for any physical damage (dents, scuffs, scrapes, etc.), broken parts not under warranty, or missing parts. If you have made any modifications and not returned them to stock, you will be charged. They also inspect tires to ensure that all 4 tires match appropriately (all the same except for staggered setups) and that they have a legal amount of tread remaining.
I'm sure they also check for any malfunction lights on the dash, and probably brake wear. On the brakes though, wear is OK, unless the car needs pads or rotors at turn-in. I do not know what they will do with respect to curb rash or wheel damage.

Sounds like the reason you are asking is that you have some kind of issue going on with the car that you are concerned about when you turn it in. If so, what is it specifically and maybe post a picture and it might increase the chance of someone being able to chime in and give you an answer.

I leased one a few years back. Return was very easy.
They sent someone out to me to do a pre-return inspection so if there was anything wrong/missing there was time for me to get it fixed. (Nothing was wrong in my case.) Their policy was (and still appears to be) that any minor damage that fits behind a credit card was fine. There are some exclusions.
