I own a car with the vin number falls in the range to repair but car runs fine. Is it inevitable that the Balance shaft needs to be replaced? The car only has 60k on it and it runs fine. Now the dealer says it will only handle 40% of the repair it still almost what the car is is worth.

What would you all do if you owned this car?

My ML350 is also vulnerable to the balance shaft issue. 128k km and so far no issues (knock on wood).

I'm in Canada, so I can't take advantage of that. Us Canadians are still screwed, footing the bill ourselves.

I do have Lubrico coverage which *should* cover up to $2000 of the repair, assuming they don't find some loophole to screw me. There are local shops that offer the repair for $3k in ~10 days, so if Lubrico comes through, that would be a $1000 repair job for me. Hopefully no worse than that.
