C200 Headunit replacement

C200 Headunit replacement
So i've resolved that the only way to fix my "Software Update" error on my headunit is to replace it. Would this be a correct assumption? The Headunit contains all the electrics for the navigation/hdd/etc so if i replace it alone i should be good?
So in sourcing a HU, Are all HU's compatible (for that year/model) or do i need a specific one? Eg my c200 has the HK option do i need a HU from a HK optioned c200?
Once obtained i beleive there is a 20digit number to associate the HU to my car. What is the process to enter it?

I can't offer too much but the dealer replaced my defective ntg4.5 with a new ntg4.7. As part of the process they had to flash it once installed. But that was for a new HU install. It seemed to take them several days to swap it out.
Even the dealer seemed to have some difficulty with this as they said every model and model year had it's differences.

Thanks for the reply.
So its not a case of simply sourcing a HU from ebay that came from a 2011+ (facelift) C200 with HK audio?
I assumed the HU did not change from 2011 (facelift models) to 2014 when the w204's were replaced with the w205's?

It might work if you can match up the same options. I would guess there is some sort of security key built in as well. Mine was factory new so that could be why. It's hard to find much info. But I noticed some of the ebay sales say that you will need to visit the dealer for install.
There is an electronics section on here but it doesn't get as much traffic.
The screens charged around some but the form factor on the HU seemed to stay the same.

Cheers michail71, posted in the electronics section as well. im sure someone would have done a HU swap before.
Would hate to get another HU and then for it to not be compatible.

Don't know if you've done this yet, but I had to change my HU and my indy shop told me to make sure it was within the same years, ie 2008-2009 (mine), 2010-2011, 2012-2013, etc. Also, don't get a HK HU with Navi if you only have Audio 20.
If so, then you won't have to visit the dealer, it'll just pop right in and power up no codes needed.
The HUs from GLKs will also work, that's were mine was from.
Someone on here upgraded to the facelift ngt4.5, but had to get the dealer to flash the car to make it work.
