W204 Recalls
Hey guys,
I have an '09 C300 and I read in a post somewhere on this site about recalls. I feel like my car is constantly being recalled. Late last year I brought my car to the same dealership it's been going to since I got it back in 2014 for a taillight recall. Something about the wiring harness potentially catching fire or something. Anyway, I looked up any potential recalls on my car today and 2 came up. One is from back in October for the SRS components potentially crapping out causing the airbags to not deploy should my car be in an accident and the other one is for the driver side front airbag potentially deploying randomly causing metal shards to spew everywhere. I'm a little pissed at MB because I never received ANY type of letter from them about this recall. I know they have the correct address because my current address is the one they sent the taillight recall letter to. Is it normal within a period of 6 months to have your car recalled 3 times? I've owned plenty of cars and never had this many issues with recalls. I'm getting frustrated because my dealership doesn't have the parts for the drivers side airbag so now I have to take two days off work on separate occasions to get this crap fixed. I'm close to giving up on MB. I guess they aren't what I thought they were.

The best way is to call MB corporate and verify if they have your information on the system. Also call the dealer and ask them to run your VIN to see if your car is affected. From memory the W204 only has 3 recalls: tail light, SRS module, driver airbag. The SRS module affects all pre-facelift W204. The airbag of death does not affect all W204. I had the tail light and SRS module done but the system is not flagging my 09 C300 as part of the airbag recall.
3 recalls is nothing. Recalls are normal nowadays. It just means that safety people are doing their jobs and making sure potential danger is avoided in making the cars safer for the users. Not to mention no car or parts are perfect and defects will surely arise sooner or later. Also think about this our cars are 7 years old and they still look at parts that can go wrong and correct it.

I called Mercedes yesterday and they confirmed there are 2 recalls on my car. I get it that you think 3 recalls is nothing but to me 3 recalls in a span of about 6 months is a lot to me. I have never owned a car that has been at the dealership constantly. I guess I'm just expecting more out of a luxury vehicle than what mine is giving.
End of September 2015 - washer reservoir crapped out
October 2015 - taillight recall
December 2015 - ignition lock crapped out and had to be towed up to the dealership - thank god for extended warranties.
& Now these two MAJOR safety recalls that I now have to miss work to fix.

All the w204 cars are affected, the drivers airbag recall is just so new that they don't have the parts to fix it yet, none of the dealers know about it yet. I took mine in last week for what I thought was the drivers airbag recall and imagine my surprise when I got it back and they said the replaced the module which was the older recall that I didn't even know about.
