Warranty?
Im getting a used 2013 Mercedes C300 4matic sport fully loaded, so it has the leather and suede with the red stitching on the inside. However, it has 46,145 miles. I am getting it from carmax and the factory warranty should last me for 4,000 more miles or another year, which isnt very long. I was just wondering from you guys if you have encountered any known issues with this car around this time? I dont want to buy the car and then have to dig super deep into my pockets due to repairs. I would appreciate your opinions!

definitely go buy the extended warranty from Mercedes.
just the transmission can cost you 7000 to 10.000 dollars
transfer case can be problematic.
ignition lock on steering wheel can cost you several thousands.
parts and labor on these cars can leave you bankrupt.
get the warranty the maximum coverage you can get if you can afford it.
great cars otherwise.

Even though it is carmax get it inspected! Mine came with several non-warranty covered issues. They don't really inspect the vehicles like they say. But Carmax is good at covering any problems within their 30 day period. They even did an alignment for me at the Mercedes dealer and paid for the additional alignment bolts.

I only have warranty on my Engine and Transmission till 2017 December the rest of the car is off warranty I chose not to buy the extended warranty. Knock on wood everything goes well. I'm at just under 80,000KM only had one issue under warranty it was the emissions air pump if i can remember the car has been awesome for the 25,000km I've owned it.
but like everyone says it will cost a lot to fix unless you do DIY its a Mercedes...
I do have to say most issues are with the 2008-2011 W204 the 2012+ i've seen one bad transmission post on a 2013 on this site.
I think people are jumping on issues because they were more common on the older w204 I plan on keeping my cars 15 years every time i buy one (might trade for the New C Class coupe though) but i always pass on extended warranty and have yet to have any issues on any other cars and i expect the Mercedes will do the job equally as good or as long as I stay on top of the maintenance schedule.
also pay the extra to have it properly inspect it will cost you a few hundred dollars but you have a better piece of mind if you go get a full inspection at lets say a MB dealer.

ok so make that 2. how many Km do you have on the car did it just happen out of nowhere? did you miss the service? did they do the full proper service (TC drain also). Ive read they addressed the issues with the 2012+ models. thats one of the reasons I jumped up to the 2012 as I read about the issues in the 2008-2011's.

i don't know what to say problems can happen with any car even if you go buy a brand new one. I bought the 2012 c300 4matic because i need it in the Canadian winters, i loved the facelift look, i love how the car drives and read that fixed the issues. also the car was reliable and a Mercedes hahaha . with any car you cringe at the what ifs but really you can't live in fear that this is going to happen to me too. I went with buying something i will enjoy rather than buying a toyota or honda that will be 10 times cheeper to fix but less enjoyable.

Should I have Mercedes do a pre purchase inspection or maybe have an outside company do that? I feel like if I do a pre purchase inspection or even take it in to mercedes to have it inspected, carmax should be able to fix all the issued within the 30 days. Do you think thats a good plan?
I don't know what else to say its probably your best option

the remanufactured transmission is loaded with updated parts and should last the life of the car. hopefully.
also had struts and shocks and springs replaced under warranty also.

Im glad at least it all worked out for you tekfoc. Anything can Ricky its good to be aware of what can happen so at least now you know what your getting yourself into if something happens. If it makes you have more piece of mind just buy an extend warranty and you'll be covered for 70,000+ miles(what ever the company warranty is)

i would probably get the full inspection done at the Mercedes Benz dealer tell them you want all the codes if any and then go to car max get the to fix it also if its at 60,000KM make sure the transmission service is done as thats honestly the main service. use proper fluid for your car and make sure if you have a TC drain they drain it and fill with the proper amount of fluid.

Buy an extended warranty! I had one on my C300 and had I not had the extended warranty, I would have had to pay out of pocket on replacing the ignition lock and some other module that goes along with it which have been almost $2000 according to my dealership. It's worth it, especially when the extended warranty I had was $2400 for 2 years.

Bought mine at 39k.
At 49k, I took it in for every little thing that I could get, under warranty.
Replaced AC vent, center vents were loose and doesn't stay in place.
Cup holder tabs were broken, that replaced my armrest as a whole unit.
Had a slight vibration when weather was warm, complained about that and they did a compression test, turns out right cylinder head was warped, and pressure was leaking. They replaced the master cylinder head ($1700 part according to invoice).
Service adviser wanted to check for leaks, and found small leak in the rear of engine where transmission links to engine (I forgot what it was called). They had to drop the transmission to replace the part.
So far, transmission is solid *knock on wood*. Recently had it serviced, INCLUDING draining of torque converter.
