iCarsoft i980 Mini Review
Hey!
I've seen a lot of people wondering if the iCarsoft i980 scanner is any good and there really haven't been all that many threads around discussing it.
I ended up getting an SRS warning and wanted to get a better idea of what the problem was so I could see if I could repair it myself or if I would have to bring it into the shop. From what information I could gather the i980 seemed like a good fit and the price was about as much as a diagnostic charge would have been so I went ahead and ordered it.
After getting the scanner I updated the firmware from iCarsoft's website and went and checked the SRS error and it reported back that the front right impact sensor was malfunctioning. After checking the connector on that sensor it looks like the weather seal failed and let moisture into the connection and one of the pins ended up corroding and breaking. Definitely something I can fix myself though which is great.
Additionally the Electronic Steering Lock ended up failing recently, which sucks, but the i980 was able to tell me the problem was in the ESL and that the Electronic Ignition Switch was fine. I feel like this helped make the experience of going to the dealer far more pleasant because I knew exactly where the problem was and there were no surprises.
Anyway, I'm definitely very happy with the scanner so far and I feel like it's going to be an excellent companion for anyone that wants to do DIY work on their W204.

Add the extra and the the icarsoft MBii... much better unit... it's no star..but for a Diy'er it has everything you need. I had a bad TCU/TCM stealership wanted $2200++ t change the chip and reset the transmission codes. I sourced a used chip at a scrap yard and did it my self for $150.00. I had the i980 but it wouldn't read the transmission codes, but the MBii second generation does it no problem.
