wheel bearing job gone wrong 2008 C300 4matic

I just installed a new front left wheel bearing on my must have do 2008 C300 4matic and i have done something wrong. Pull the hub and pressed new bearing in place every thing looked fine but when i rehung the hub on the car i now have a ABS ESP fault. Tested the wheel speed sensor and it test fine (on the ohm meter) I must have missed something along the way. If anyone can help or has had this happen many thanks It has started to drive me mad
Thanks Dan

Was it an OEM wheel bearing? This thread on BenzWorld concerning a similar problem with a W211 suggests that non-OEM grease seals end up confusing the wheel speed sensors: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...ave-esp-3.html

I realize they're not the same car but maybe this might point you in the right direction.

One more quick followup, this thread suggests that the orientation of the wheel bearing is important: https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...operative.html

the bearing is a MB part i got from the dealer so the bearing itself shouldnt be the problem. The way i placed the bearing is more like the problem. Does the speed sensor read off this bearing ? one side of the bearing has a seal side and the other had a steel side. I placed the side with the steel ring covering the seal to the snap ring side. If this is what the WSS need to see to get a reading this was my error

Yeah according to that 2nd thread it looks like one side of the bearing is read by the sensor and if it's installed the wrong way it'll cause a fault.

My dealer just did this job for me and when they did they got an ABS CEL. They replaced the wheel speed sensors and it cleared the issue.

There were some more details but the paperwork is in my office. I can post the details on Monday.
