Way, way out of town. No start.

*Car has had no problems prior.

*Car says to remove key from ignition when inserted, and does NOTHING when the key is turned as if trying to start the car. Nothing blacks out or goes dead or anything. Absolutely nothing appears to happen when the key is turned to start the car.

*car ran fine just before parking the car for 45 minutes then wouldn't start

*tried charging the battery with jumper cables from another car, no change

*the key fob DOES still open the doors and pop the trunk. Windows wont move, transmission wont shift out of park, interior lights do seem to be acting odd. working one minute not working the next, but it does NOT feel like a dead battery- everything was still bright and nothing sounded sluggish unlocking/locking- however i did read some other stuff saying it could still be a possibility?

My other key fob was 4 hours away...it will be here in the morning. I checked the starter fuses - I cant remember which specifics but i think it was 6, 7, 20 something? ( brother googled it and read off on the phone) Also checked 31, 52, & 57 and all the fuses were fine

if the key doesn't work in the morning, anything I should try for sure before having it towed to the dealership?

Also, the steering wheel was free? that was odd to me. Even with the key out of the car, the steering wheel wasnt locked? If I recall correctly. At that point I was pretty annoyed and I may be remembering wrong.

As a shot in the dark I would try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. But I wouldn't have my hopes up.

Well...I am currently in the solution phase (hopefully) of the exact same issue.
It is, unfortunately the infamous ESL (Electronic Steering Lock). I was hoping it would be the battery. Needless to say, it wasn't.
It's been a week, and i'm still waiting to get the car back.

Yeah, looks like you'll be needing a steering lock. Unfortunately it's a trp part that requires some proof of ownership and a trip to the dealer and a couple days to get the part.

Just an update...if you get stranded I found a tip that worked for me...

I am confident is the ESL, I unlocked the steering column so it could be raised and lowered....I gave it 2-3 solid impacts downward and the car started. (not hard enough to break anything, i felt, but hard enough for a solid jar to the entire assembly)

I found this suggestion on another thread and wanted to list what got me out of my stranded with not many options situation.

Could have gone 900 billion times worse...if I can get home I'm set
