Can you select sport mode when in motion?
Should sport/comfort mode only be selected when fully stopped or can it also be selected when the vehicle is in motion?
- when climbing up fairly steep incline is it ok to leave it in comfort mode?

The owner's manual says to do it when stopped. I think that is to just prevent sudden acceleration. If you do it on a newer w205 model you get a nice kick in the pants. It's like hitting afterburners. But on a W204 it isn't too much of a difference.
However, the crazy throttle response and TCU adaptions the w204 have are far more unpredictable that switching from E to S in motion.
If it were really that bad they probably would have coded it to switch when fully stopped.

I feel like everyone has different views on this, I'm pretty sure the manual says to do it in park.
I just got into the habit of ever time i sit in the car and turn it on i put it in sport mode.
i remember asking the dealer when i bought my car there exact words were you should do it in park, but its up to you lol. so since then i've just learned to cope with doing it when i first get in the car.

I kept ours at S for the first 3 years as it doesn't default to C.
Now that the engine is really broken in I keep it in C because I've come to love that silent pull from the M272.

You can go in sport mode anytime, even in motion.
Also if you have the dynamic handling package it's funny to demo it to your passengers when driving over a bridge. In comfort mode you will ride normally, however as soon as I go in sport mode their heads starts bouncing uncontrollably without having to change speed or direction.
