recent air bag recall work and ignition module problem

(Update: It's the steering lock, $1500. Unrelated to the airbag module recall work of course.)

Hi, searched the forum for some help. Seems there are some postings about ignition module issue, but nothing too recent. So here's my problem with my 08 C350, hopefully folks here can clue me in:

- Couple weeks ago had the airbag module recall done. They had the car all day because dash has to come off.

- Yesterday the car won't start. Fob works and trip computer come on, but engine dials don't light up and nothing on ignition. Roadside said if jump does nothing could be ignition module or steering column lock module (?) and repair will need dash to come off.

Do you think these two events are related? These things seem to be in the same vicinity.

The dash does not need to come out to replace any ignition components. Parts of the dash maybe, but not the entire dash. Also if it was the drivers airbag replaced, the dash does not need to come out. I think coincidentally your car fell prey to the dreaded 204 EIS issues.
1. Check if the steering wheel is locked.
2. Check if the key will turn completely to position 2.
3. If either or both, take care to dealer for proper diag.

It is likely that its an EIS or Steering lock. Not always, but usually if the steering is locked and the instrument cluster does not respond to the key, you need a steering lock. The only way to tell is to bring the car in with both keys for testing.

thanks. fob unlocks, only trip computer lights up after key goes in (do not hear steering wheel unlock), turn key nothing happens then says remove key.

The nearest I can find is this:
