w204 2009 not cranking intermitent

Please help if anyones had this fault - 2009 c320 cdi w204. at random sometimes once a week sometimes 2 times a day car wont crank - I get run flat indicator inoperative and traction control symbol inoperative see owners manual alternating on the dash. the other lights seem ok and the glow coil light doesnt come on either - turning the key further not cranking - also noticed the front fan is running quite fast when this happens. After some taking key out and closing doors and unlocking again it eventualy does crank - any ideas is this a common fault.

Strange symptoms can emerge when the battery is on the way out.

I suggest a battery load test .

Good luck.

i thought might be too but i doubt it as once it happened when i stoped at the services car park after a 120 mile run - battery would have been fully charged by then lol

Someone said its the supply going to the ecu or the ecu but im sure the supply to the ecu is from the front sam fuse box relays etc - so i took that out and took each relay out 1 or 2 of them had green corrosion on in the pins so cleaned them up and sprayed wd40 working them in and out.
I also took the rear sam unit a fuse box out in the boot which was actualy in a worse state loads of corrosion. cleaned up now - im at testing stage and for now the fault hasnt appeared yet. fingers crossed watch this space will report back if its still there,

Good thinking.

As a matter of interest, is your car normally garaged? Are you near the sea or run on salted roads? Any other reason for the corrosion?

You must not be in the USA as you call your luggage space "the boot" !

I’ve copied this post as I am having a similar issue, although not the fan part.
The car has had a new battery and a mechanic has identified a potential battery drain.
Has anyone found a solution for this problem or knows where to start?
ma y thanks
