HELP!! Replace tires or no
Hey guys,
Im not sure what i hit on the road, but a chunk of my tire wall got ripped off. I got the tire inspected by the dealership a couple of days ago and they said the tires are good for another 8-10k miles. But now im not sure if i need to replace it or not since i got a chunk of the tire off. I did some research and people said that if the tire is not losing air or if the chunk did not show any thread, then the tire is still good to drive. Can someone give me a second opinion on whether i should replace the tire or not? Im probably overreacting but I rather be safe than sorry.
Thanks in advance!

with sidewall damage you never know when its going to blow, the thing with 4 matic if you replace one you have to do them all..... unless you can find a used tire thats the same brand, with the same tread depth as the ripped one hahaha (long shot).
I had a ****ty situation a few months ago, where when installing my tires they noticed a rip in the bead of the tire. I was lucky my tires were practically new so I could just buy a new one and not replace them all.

I had one much worse than that. That's more of a scuff.
I had gotten mixed opinions from shops on getting it replaced. I eventually did but never had issues with the tire. A screw is what eventually took it out.

So its not a big deal then? Im looking at 4 new tires for the car as well, any suggestions on which one is better? i was looking at Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06.
Tirerack got a good deal on them and rated them better than Michelin and other brands.

I have the DWS on my summer rims. the tire wear is great on them no issues yet, I like the fact they are all season if i get stuck with them on the car late I don't need to worry. the ratings where great. so far so good!
I think when i need tires again I'm going to try the michelin pilot super sports just because everyone says there so amazing and I can just put them on my summer rims to test them out.
They both have the highest rating's on tire rack, you basically can't go wrong with either from the reviews.

I know its not deep at all but 8000k is not much driving thats like 2 months for me, I'd rather just not mess around with tires or car brakes driving on the highway majority of the time. I'd rather be safe than sorry, you really never know what can happen with deeper sidewall damage.
of course this is my opinion, i would personally just change all the tires.(it could be an OCD but just knowing its there would bug me every time I get in the car) hahaha

You're likely fine. A friend of mine is still driving on a tire that has an actual rip in the side wall... now that I wouldn't consider ok, but yours is just a scuff, basically.

That is fine, no need to worry about it. If a tire tech says that's unsafe, they're just trying to make money off you. Cosmetically yeah, it sucks that your tire is scuffed lol
