Bad smell problem :-(
Hi,
I bought my C230 2008 in January 2015.
The smell is really bad inside the vehicle. It seems to be worst during the summer months. Please note the weather is cold in my country during the winter...
First, I changed my cabin air filter. It was not the problem.
Second, I tried many times to inject Febreze spray into the air inlet of the vehicle. It was not a success as well (at least not as a long term solution).
For your information, I have a check engine error code (P0128). Could it be related to the bad smell?
Any idea what I should try next?

Mine was from the a/c. Dealer used fridge fresh and it was gone immediately.

It's likely mold/mildew living on the condensation in your ductwork. MB has a spray (kinda like specialized Lysol) that can be sprayed in to kill the offenders. Of course Lysol will work....likely not as well though...
In lieu of that, whenever possible, keep the controls set to fresh air and not recirculate.
Also, if possible, turn the heat on for a few minutes before every shut down for a few days. This will dry and warm the ductwork and keep the moisture from feeding the problem.
