2010 M_B C300 ... Wife drives a 2007 GL450
Air filter ..
Was changing my air intake filters and noticed that there are another set of filters below those .. Didn't think of takin pictures ... Anyone have an idea if what those are for

US w204s have an unexplained secondary filter which I think is charcoal or something, possibly for emissions. I don't think it needs changing, and I think it can even be safely removed

When I discovered mine, did a google search on "charcoal delete", and found that this is NOT just a Mercedes topic, but with all manufacturers makes and models (at least in the US). It is purely for emissions and prevents unwanted fumes from escaping the intake when you shutdown/startup the car.

Mine was made in South Africa I believe and doesn't have the charcoal filter deelie thing. I've searched and from what I've gathered it appears to be a California emissions thing. My car was shipped from the factory to KS for it's first owner. I'm guessing the one's going to Cali and other states with stringent emissions standards get this lovely little upgrade. Anyone who's car initially came from California fell free to chime in
