Unhappy NTG4 204 Problem

Hello,

My brother went to a person to do a map update with 2015 maps on a 30gb navi and it just stops at 5% and gives this error: "Map update not possible. Ejecting dvd. Please refer to Owner's Manual". Only the radio works now. The DISC option works temorarily after inserting "disk a" and getting the error.

What can I do? Use a different version?

I will appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Bogdan

You have a NTG4 Command right? Not a NTG4.5?
The NTG4 Command is the one that the screens pops up at startup.

So there is two version of NTG4: one with 30gb HDD and one with 40gb. The latest version of Navigation Maps (2015/2016) cant not be installed in a 30gb HDD. Its a known issue.

You still can do two things about the HDD: 1) get one 40gb HDD from another NTG4 and swap (dont know if it needs programming) or ask the dealer to swap the HDD (they do it but dont know the cost).

If you are stuck at the install, get an older version of maps. Force the install about 4/5 times given the error. After that you can force install a older maps version.

Another thing:
- check if it is the correct version maps (location and NTG4) for your Command
- get a firmware update at the dealer before maps install (it can be done with that error). Tell them that you want a frmware update! Not the maps installation!! Then install the maps version you want, except that for 2015/2016.

Good luck!

Thats will not resolve the problem! He installed an update map that is not for the 30gb HDD.

What he can do and maybe fix it is insert the V12 update several times till the comand stops the update and acepts to install a diferent version, like V12 (the last version for 30gb HDD).

This topic, as old as it is, seems to still bother us all
I have lastly installed V10 by myself in the past.
Now I feel like I want to update with the last version (I have NTG4 with 30GB HDD).
I have read some discussions here and there, where its mentioned the 30GB is more than enough for installing whichever version you wish but the partitions in the drive are the ones that stop you from it.
I think the previous owner of my car mentioned something like "its unlocked and you are lucky with this car" when he spoke about the navi.
I have the feeling it was given by him, to some black market wizard who made it with suitable partitions for versions post-V12, but I don't have another NTG4-person I know of, that can use to compare.
This is where you guys could become in handy - I went into engineering mode menu, where one can see which drive there is and what size partitions.
Maybe we can do a little "I`ll show you mine - you show me yours" thing and compare partitions. This is my partitions sizes, while I'm with version10:
HDD1 :1 051 696 KB
HDD2 : 5 244 544 KB
HDD3 : 1 050 188 KB
HDD4 : 21 942 080 KB
In the navigation installation .iso of V16 I can see which partition what size requires, having in mind it only requires to use HDD2 and HDD4:
disk1: (HDD2:568MB, HDD4: 7.2GB)
disk2: (HDD2: 2.29GB)
(PLEASE HAVE IN MIND TAKING HDD OUT OF THE CAR AND REPARTITION YOURSELF IS NOT AN OPTION AND COULD RUIN YOUR COMAND, UNLESS YOU HAVE SOLID KNOWLEDGE AND SPECIAL HARDWARE, MY GOAL HERE IS ONLY TO COMPARE)

Also, I have an "update via USB" option in the engineering menu, but I don't know what it can be used for - anybody some Ideas?

Kindly,
Me

Interesting. I have updated the maps in both my cars and could only do it via the USB port. I will tell you though, even using the USB requires restarting 5 or 6 times. Fortunately, the install program picks up where it "fails" and you just have to continue reconnecting the USB drive. That warning is given by the seller. I got my maps through eBay and had to send the seller the serial number. And, FWIW, the cost was not a lot less than having the dealer do it. I just wanted to do it myself because I'm that kind of guy.

Yes, if that is an option I would prefer to do it via USB (by creating bootable flash drive), but for this particular module (NTG4) is usually known, that it could be updated only via DVD. This is why I am confused, nobody ever mentioned this option exist in the menu. Probably it is for something else but I wonder what it is (exact name is Update HDD via USB - I will make a photo when I am in the car), maybe update firmware? I hope someone here has experience with NTG4 30GB .
