Engine Oil Extractor

Hello,

I have a 2012 W204 C class and I've always been going to the dealer for an oil change. $35 labour isn't bad...but I have a PELA extractor sitting in my garage from my old car.

If I extract out using the dipstick, do I need to buy an adaptor in order to draw even more oil? I seem to read everywhere that by using just an extractor that there is oil left behind. Is that the case?

Also, what is the torque spec for the oil filter replacement?

Thanks all!

From what I read it's a bigger problem with the 4matic using a hose, there is an adapter a company makes that seals onto the dip stick tube and that gets everything people say. That's how dealers do it. Torque for the filter is 25NM as it should say on the housing.

Thanks. Just ended up buying the adapter. $73 after foreign transaction fee and UPS shipping to Canada.

Ouch. Hope it works though.

Be sure to replace 3 O-rings. You could hand tighten the oil filter. If you are looking for an oil filter cap, Ebay has it for less than $4, it's 74mm 14 teeth.

I pondered getting the adaptor, however I read somewhere depending on the make/model you might actually be better sticking with the hose since it may go farther down than the bottom of dipstick tube. Regardless, my MityVac + hose works perfectly and I don't have to worry if I'm doing my 2012 (M276) or my brother in law's 2008 (M272).
