HELP W204 C220 NOISE.

Hi all i have just joined forum and need help already.
Back to a Mercedes now after coming from a 320d Touring and a W202 before that.

Problem is i have purchased a 61 plate C220 diesel @ 100k, the car is immaculate but seems really noisy to an extent it sounds like a 6.3 AMG.

At idle its normal, pull away seems really noisy then seems normal around 40mph, kick down and it sounds like noisy again, sought of like its running on 3 cylinders.

Can anyone point me in the right direction where to start looking??

Only had it a week

Thanks in advance.

Can you record the noise and upload it so we can hear it.

Did you not test drive it before buying?

Evening all again, got paranoid again about the noise and got my son to drive it pass me again to hear the engine but once again you cannot hear the sound i am getting inside the cabin.
There is no loss of power, seems very fast, no error lights up.
Its really annoying, has anyone else had this problem? or can point in the right direction, cound it be vibrations from the gearbox.

I tried to get a recording but you cannot really hear it.

Is this something that just came up or was that sound always there and over time it just is starting to annoy you? Like someone else said, was it like that when you drove it before you bought it (if you even test drove it)? Can your son hear the noise?

To be throaty ,just wondered whether you have an air inlet leak or non OEM air filter creating induction noise or an exhaust leak.

To check exhaust for leaks just place a rag over exhaust for a few seconds to create back-pressure . A hiss noise will tell you you have a leak.

Hi Carsy i tried the rag over the exhaust but could not really hear the front of the engine, might have to check air filter.

Do you think it could be a pulley, it really seems like its running on 3 cylinders if you no what i mean, but there is no loss of power.

My diesel does have a little distinctive thrum at low speeds especially when she is working in the lower rev range. I like it, adds character!! In car parks can be quite pronounced. Cannot hear it at all at highway speed.

I suggest you check another similar car to compare.

Mercedes diesels make a lot of sound when accelerating.
on the other hand they make less noise then for example a BMW when they can hold their rpm
