I've got a weird noise I'm trying to isolate. The noise sounds like what you would expect from a failing power-steering pump, its a mid to high pitched whine like a failing bearing. It sounds like the whine is coming from the passenger side in the area of the oil filler/timing chain gear. The sound increase with engine RPM. It may also be coincidental but the check engine light came on around the same time as the sound started. It also feels like whatever is causing the noise is bogging down the engine a bit like I'm pulling something or have the car loaded. Scratching my head at the moment. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Try turning your A/C off and see if the problem goes away. The AC pulley tends to whine in the pre-facelift models, and the sound matches what you are describing.

Mine wines slightly with ac on only and it's a 12
With facelift but with the good oo non direct injection engine .
I figure I throw that in their for angrypinguen. Lol

Yeah, mine whines slightly too, nothing weird - it's been like that forever.
