W204 C250 No power selecting low gear
Hi everyone,
I have a 2012 Mercedes C-Class C250 (107,000 miles) and last week whilst driving I seemed to have no power above 2,000 RPM as if the turbo was doing nothing and could not get any power. When I turned the car off and came back 20 minutes later the issue had cured itself and I hoped that it was just a glitch.
However, whilst driving home today from work I encountered the same issue. Namely:
1. No power above 2,000 RPM
2. Struggle to do much past 70 mph
3. Seems hesitant to select gear and keeps selecting too low a gear (ie doing 2,500 RPM whilst at 30 mph)
Unfortunately this time turning off and on again hasn't fixed it and now the engine light has come on. I had a quick google of this and found multiple suggestions of varying severity. Is there anyway to get the car to show error codes without an error code reader (or does anyone have any suggestions for which one to buy preferably an iPhone compatible one) and does any one have any suggestions as to what may be the cause and is there anything I can do regarding checks, cleaning out valves, pipes etc before handing it over to a garage to look?
Cheers,
Tom

Just visit a repair shop with Star Diagnosis... this could be anything because the limp mode can be activated by any problem with the engine and fuel system.
It could be something major or minor, who knows...

That was definitely limp mode. Sometimes it can go away after a couple key cycles.
Being a C250 a high pressure fuel pump issue could be a likely culprit. But that's only a guess as it happened to me (and many others). If it doesn't deliver enough fuel under heavy load it will switch to limp mode. Makes the car feel sluggish.
The Torque app with a Bluetooth odbii reader works. But I'm not sure about iPhone. Problem is they only report generic codes. The ones someone with Star can get would be more precise.
