2011 Mercedes C300 Sport
2011 W204 C300 - CEL light on/off fuel system
2011 C300 78K miles.
Summary of my issues:
I fill up my tank a month ago, smelled like gas in the cabin for about the first 1/8 tank of gas, then it went away. I did not top off.
When the same tank of fuel was down to 1/4 take left, CEL came on. Code said "Minor leak in fuel system" - AKA, gas cap was loose.
Clean the gas cap, filled up another tank.
CEL was still on, then went off about half way through the tank of gas and stayed off. This is usual, been down this road before with other vehicles and manufacturers.
I refueled again(still had a slight gas odor in the cabin), CEL stayed off for about 1 week and then came back on again when the tank was in between 1/2 and 1/3 tank of fuel left.
Any idea why the CEL keeps going off and on at these points in the fuel consumption cycle?
Anyone ever experience this?
I've read forums about topping off fuel and it overflowing into the charcoal fume catcher, causing the gas smell, but I never top off the tank for knowing these reasons prior to my issues.
Any quick fixes?
Anyone experience these symptoms followed by a bank breaker (read - fuel system repair)?
Please help if you have any insight on what my issue is here.
