COMMAND KNOB - Not the usual issue

Hello everyone - First post and new owner of a 2009 C300 Sport. Before I picked it up I did a lot of research on this site and noticed many issues with the Command knob and folks having issues with the "scrolling". I have a slightly different problem and cant seem to find anything posted with this same issue.

So I can "scroll" by turning the knob left and right but the issue I have is when you try to move the knob up/down or left/right. It seems like I can move within the audio menu when I move the knob up but cant seem to do anything when I try and move the knob left, right, or down.

You may be thinking that doesn't seem like a huge issue as long as I can scroll I should be able to navigate around most of the menus no problem. I was thinking the same thing until I test drove it and decided to adjust the Fade/Balance all the way to the front to test the speakers. I was able to move the fade to the front and now I am stuck. The Fade/Balance menu seems to be the ONLY one that the scroll function will not work in. Does anyone know of a way to adjust the fade back to center WITHOUT using the knob?

This site has been a major help in my research to find a nice vehicle and know what to look out for. Thanks in advanced for your help.

Chris

Thanks for the advice. I didn't consider that.

I realize it needs to be replaced and I will get to it soon but my question was more along the line of; is it possible to adjust the fade any other way?

I think it might just need some cleaning inside as when you disassemble the knob there are a lot of moving parts that I noticed have small amount of grease. Dirt might have got into it. Before buying a new one disassemble it first like on how you replace the central knob and clean it well then apply grease into it (I use the mercedes-benz or BMW sunroof grease) just don't apply too much. Then reinstall it. If it did not work then you won't feel bad forking $450 for the new knob as you tried your best to fix it.

FIXED

Thanks for the reply shotgun_banjo.

As I was sitting in traffic this morning I decided to go through all the menus once again. I found the "system reset" button and decided to give it a shot. Since I have only had the car for a few days I didn't have much saved. After the system reset was performed my balance/fade was reset to be in the center. Since the comand knob still scrolls I can make my way through all the other menus no problem.
