Comand Radio Problem

Comand Radio Problem
I have this problem with my radio where whenever I turn it on (regardless of mode - radio, navigator, dvd, etc) there's this constant "plub" sound (sounds like shorting?) thats constantly sounds every second or so and does not stop. There is no music/navigation prompt or anything that can be heard. Just that sound every second or so with nothing heard in between.
I took it to various radio shops and it the consensus seems to be the same - that i have a faulty amplifier. I have have a W204 C230 (Pre-facelift) with Comand Navigation but no Harman Kardon option so I believe I have to replace the entire head unit as the amplifier is built in.
From what I gather I have 3 choices
1. Get a brand new unit direct from the dealer. I'll like to avoid this as the price is extortion where I live - around 5,418 USD where I live! and that's not including the labor!
2. Get a used unit from ebay and fit it myself. My fear here is if there are any coding required, compatibility between USA/EU units - I'm in SE Asia. My research was rather inconclusive. It seems some Comand NTG 4 units have anti-theft pin lock - anyone know?
3. Get an aftermarket unit. Here I think I'll be losing the ability to show navigation info on my dashboard as well as setting the time (since i have to set it via the Comand unit). Also I think potentially lose the usage of the comand knob.
Does anyone have experience/thoughts about this?
