You can force upshift in 7G Transmission. (Pre-Facelift)

Just wanted to throw this out there because I never read anything about it, and technically it "wasnt possible with our transmissions."
If I've always understood correctly, the 7G+ has the M mode, which you can select the gear. Whereas in 7G, you can only set the "maximum gear."
Now, I know that my car shifts at exactly 38mph in comfort mode when it is relatively warmed up/warm. This may be different for people.
So when I drive on the 35mph zone, I usually get up to 40 and let it shift so I am <1500rpm.
Of course, sometimes it doesn't want to shift or whatever. So kind of jokingly I moved the gear knob to the right (no visual change in speedo screen) and it shifted.
Well, that must have been a stroke of luck. Except I've done this for about a week now, and it DEFINITELY works for me. You need to be somewhat near the higher end of the gear, and not in sport mode.
And probably not driving crazy lol.
Would be interesting to see if anyone can confirm this, because my transmission got swapped so maybe I'm the only one lol.
What I often do on the other hand, is slightly letting off the accelerator to change gears earlier, then accelerate again. If I want it to change at 2800rpm instead of 3500, for example.

I just remember reading on old posts that we couldn't do it, but idk.
When in Drive, if you hold the shifter towards the right (+), the transmission will upshift to the next gear and if you hold the shifter towards the left (-), the transmission will downshift to the lowest and safest gear. The difference between the 5-speed 722.6 and the 7-speed 722.9 transmissions is that the latter can skip gears when upshifting or downshifting meaning it can go from 5 to 3 directly without going through 4.

Basically the + side "would set the maximum gear" so you wouldn't shift upwards. However, in that mode, yes, you could upshift. They said you couldn't do it in regular driving outside of this mode (with the gear # on the screen)
Anyways this platform has been around a while now and there are plenty of 2009 posts about x pipe voiding warranty and 2nd cats holding O2 sensors so in case anyone didn't know about this, now they do.
