I got this code today. From some other posts I’ve seen, it is most likely the secondary air pump which is mounted on the top front of the engine. I will monitor this for a while and see if the code comes back. I will probably have to replace or clean and rebuild the pump per a YouTube video I saw, but before doing so, has anyone else had this code come up and what the fix was?

I had this problem with my previous C320 4matic... You might want to check out your carbon build up through your engine.
I found that my secondary air pump had A LOT of carbon in it. along with carbon build up on the MAF, PCV, EGR and everywhere else. If the secondary air pumps are in the front of the engine, then just remove them and open them up and clean out the carbon. But most likely once you've performed this task, then start your car, you're going to get another error code and so on. Basically you'll be chasing codes down due to carbon build up through out your engine. So before replacing parts, start by taking off the MAF, PCV, EGR secondary air pumps, etc.. and just clean them out using brake cleaner or CRC throttle body and valve cleaner.
That's my guess.
Oh, Also take off your intake manifold and scope out your intake valves to see if they need carbon removal as well. Basically, the code you're getting has to do with air flow and emissions, so you'll want to inspect all areas of your air intake parameters so that you don't start chasing down codes one after another.

Update: the new code I am now getting is p2440, secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 1. I do think there is a carbon issue going on. This would point to one of the check valves but I still think the root issue is the secondary air pump going south. I will probably take the air pump and check valves out and shoot them with cleaner to get the carbon out. If that doesn’t work, may have to replace the pump first and if that doesn’t cure, then bank one check valve. Any one else have experience in curing these codes?
