Higher Mile c250 Reliability?
Yeah the M272 proved to be a very reliable engine once the balance shaft problems were solved. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the early M276 engines. Glad I researched enough to know this and stuck with an M272 with the facelift. Best of both worlds!
I'm sure he means 2.3k

what’s wrong with the early m276 engine? Or are you meaning the tensioner issue? Or others? What years are you meaning? Mines been solid and I have 100k on it. Just did the tensioners and check valves, but randomly still get a rattle so have the feeling the variable valve gears and solenoid might be going(sigh). If I have to do them it’ll suck but I expect spending money on a German car, this car hasn’t cost me much in general.
to the OP, make sure you have the rear subframe inspected, especially if your in the north. I got lucky.

@thegolffather and @sby14 Have C250s which have M271 engines. Why are we swinging back to the M272/M276 controversy?
yes, I know 100k isn’t high. But this car has been with me longer than any other, and given how ridiculous new car prices are these days I plan to keep it a long time unless something special comes my way 😉. I’m itching for a w204 c63, I love the look of the w204 compared to the new ones. But if there’s an issue that’s significant I’d like to know. Pulleys and such are not a big deal, most engines would need some extra work by then at the least. I was thinking timing chain and such when you said unreliable. Which I’d do myself anyway. Thanks!

@alynch heck yeah!!! Love to see this!
my c250 just rolled 107k this week! Planning to take her on my upcoming road trip to add a thousand more miles or so.
I love these damn w204’s. You honestly can’t go wrong with any one of them from the c250-c63.

High mileage ??68k ? Ha, I just hit 290k with my c300 and its like new. I wouldn't trust a c250 to get that far without major engine repairs tho. The turbo is a wear item that needs rebuilding. The timing chain components aren't the most reliable on the m271 (4cyl) and they seem to suffer from cam adjuster failures quite often. Those aren't problems that condemn the c250 but with those wear items in mind, be prepared for them to fail if you plan on keeping the car for a long time.
Now if you are in canada, c250 4matic 2012-2014 are 2.5L v6 which is just a smaller version on my 3L in my c300, a simple DOHC v6 which is why I chose to get one because I knew I would keep it a long time and the mileage would go up fast. 200k later since I purchased it and I made the right decision.
RWD c250 here has the 4cyl turbo engine, they dont make the older 4 cylinder turbo cars 4matic until the newer w205.

This is great! What year model is your C300 bud? I have a w204 Luxury with 122k miles and I'm currently experiencing potential transmission problems. I'm in between decisions here of keeping it and tuning it or using that same money for. a small upgrade. Either I spend $3-5k fixing the issue (still yet TBD but a first opinion might be changing the converter or more) and then spend another $3-5k tuning it up with new rims, exhaust, spoiler, diffuser, CarPlay. Or maybe go for a 2012+ E350 or other models

@WestonMerc - holding up great! No major issues (fingers crossed) just maintenance and c250 things. At 119k and about to roll to 120k miles. Running strong and smooth. Plenty of power with the mods I have done.
Just replaced the turbo oil feed line, gasket, and banjo bolt. As well as, a new oil level sensor because the old one was leaking around the seal/o-ring.
Oil changes every 5k miles.
Great car if maintained.
