C250 Reliability

Hello friends,

I may be looking at a c250 (coupe?). Ideally I'd like to get a newer 300, but there aren't that many in my area.

Could you guys go over common problems and what to look out for? All I know is some had timing chain issues, is it possible to identify this somehow/etc.

Thanks!

Are you still keeping your current C300? I would go for the C350, as C250 feels slow and sounds like a little 4 cylinder. Or, you could always go for a C63 coupe!

save up for a 350 coupe, c250s engine has too many issues and only rwd, no 4matic as I see you have a 4matic.

My CPO C250 coupe - 35k odometer - has never had any problems. IIRC Consumer Reports Annual Auto Issue for the 2012 - 2014 C250 shows almost all the 16 or 17 RELIABILITY categories at the highest level.

You're car has 35k on it.. It obviously going to be reliable. None the less, the car itself is great and reliable, the problems come with the engine later on at around 80-100k.

Realistically I was not looking to buy a car anytime soon, however circumstances caused it.

It seems that there is a large abundance of c250s for the newer models and much less c300s, even less c350s. I'm obviously looking at facelift models.

It also seems that the c250's have more packages such as the lighting and nav than the c300's, as well as the coupe model. However the c250's don't seem too reliable as the milage increases, and I drive a lot.

I was hoping to get a white one, but apparently there is less than 30 white c300's in the entire US under 70k miles, and even that's a bit stretching it.

Actually it seems the 250s are rated high in reliability.

What year did they fix the m271 evo's timing chain issue? Im looking at a 2012 one currently.

I'm in Milwaukee.

It's interesting because the timing chain issue is very common in the w203 platform but I don't see it as much on the w204, only a few threads.

I guess I'd be ok doing preventative maintenance but it's a big job, and really it's like buying a new car to work on it? I don't know really.
