2008 Mercedes C300 Engine Noise While Driving
My 2008 C300 4Matic Sport makes a whiny noise while driving. It starts at around 20-25+ mph. It’s as if something is spinning and it makes a constant rotation noise that doesn’t stop until going under around 25mph. You can hear it in the video attached if you turn the volume all the way up and try to listen towards the end of the video. Also, reving the engine while it’s in park does not cause the noise.

I can't listen to your sound file at work but maybe the bearing in your front transfer case is going.
Have you ever had the fluid changed in it? I changed mine in my 2008 at 60,000 kilometers and it was very dirty, almost black. MB states (or used to anyway) it is lifetime fluid but that is BS. It needs to be changed..

Your best bet is to take it to a shop or two and see what they offer in the way of a diagnosis. Good luck!

Notice this only when restarting C300 when the engine is already warm and the A/C is on. Disappears after a couple of minutes. Audi A5 does the same noise under the same conditions.

I bought the car at 78k miles in May 2016 and now it has 95k miles and it’s August 2018, I have not changed the transmission fluid and I’m not sure if it was changed before. Would that be something that would cause the noise? And how much would a bearing change cost? Thank you for replying.
And no it is not cheap at all and I really hope that is not your problem. I'd for sure get that front transfer case fluid changed. If your 2008 is like mine, there is no drain plug and the fluid has to be removed and put back by removing one of the drive axles up front.

Not much to go on but I do hear a bit of a whine... Does the noise ever change with throttle position(coasting, accelerating, steady state) gear selection, braking, steering, etc.?
