Back Up Camera Quality

I just bought a 2014 C300 Sport Sedan. The back up camera quality isn’t that good. It is nothing like my explorer that is older. The camera looks like it is pointing too far down almost. At night, the lights just drown it out completely and make it hard to use.

My question is, is that normal? Will an upgrade to it help out? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like an aftermarket/DIY camera?
Mine is a DIY (~$5), and aimed very well. During the day, image is perfect. At night, some snow flake type of noise in the image. I have a super clean camera (~$35) on my SUV with no noise at night. I plan to replace the so-so camera with the super good one but never got time to do it.
If you are handy you can replace it. Look for high sensitivity and high S/N camera.

How can you tell if it is aftermarket?

Good question. I believe the MB VIN decoder can tell. I haven't tried it but going to. My Honda VIN decoder tells me exactly what I have.

The backup camera is option code 218 when you decode the VIN.

I decoded my win and I do have the option 218 Rearview Camera.

So so my question is, can I buy a replacement and is it just plug and play? That simple?

1. I'd think it is a plug-and-play. After my aftermarket camera was installed, I turned camera on in the menu and it started working.
2. I tried VIN decoder from one website, found mine has backup camera. Therefore, that website is not a genuine decoder place. Tired another place and the result was difficult to understand.

This early morning I drove my SUV to work. It was still dark and my 'super good' camera showed a very clear image, no noise at all. By the way, I replaced the backup light bulbs with very bright whit LEDs that might help the rear view image quality.

This VIN decoder also tells me I have option 218, rear-view camera. I don't know what's going on. I will contact MB corporate to find what they would say.

A car
I'm not really sure why this is a 'thing'. This particular car is coming up to 10 years old soon...

Actually my car is only 4 years old. And I enjoy it and want to make it better. Why not upgrade things here and there.

Got an email back from MB corporate confirming mine does not have the camera. I requested an MB VIN decoder but they didn't even mention it.
