My car battery Drains

Hello All,

I own 2009 C300 Mercedes Benz. Last couple of months, i noticed that my car battery drains fast (within couple of months). I first got battery replaced (i took battery from AAA). After battery replaced, i still noticed that battery is draining fast (again within 3 - 5 months). This time, i got it checked with AAA car care plus and they told me that Gateway Control Module is not got to REST and they reprogrammed the device. Now, after reprogramming, after a month, again, i am seeing that battery is getting drained. Now, AAA says that they CANNOT do anything and i have to take my car of MB and get the Gateway control module replaced and they said it will cost $2000 to $3000.

Any suggestions? experience in this area?

I also want to check if there is any recall on this gateway control module. My VIN is WDDGF54X09F198080

Kindly help with your suggestions.

Thanks

Go here - https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls - and enter your VIN to search for recalls.

A dealership or good local shop should be able to figure out where a draw on the battery is coming from. AAA may be right, it may be the Gateway Control Module, but I'd want to know that for sure before throwing parts at the car.

Can you put the car on a trickle charger when it's parked? That would counteract the draw until you can get that fixed.

A trickle charger just maintains a slight charge on a battery to keep it fresh if the car is going to sit for a while (like if you store it over the winter or something like that). Now, that's not exactly why you would be using it, but the end result is the same - it'll keep your battery fresh.

I have a Battery Tender Jr -

.

Where are you located? Have you had the alternator checked, to make sure it's keeping the battery fully charged while the engine is running?
